Project name: Meat sourcing /Breeding of meat cattle and sheep /

Entity information: Olon nuur agro LLC was established in 2013. The company operates cattle and sheep farming in Bayan-Unjuul soum of the Tuv province. Currently, the company is conducting the selection of local Mongol sheep with Barga breed of sheep and local cattle with Kazakh Whitehead cattle. This activity covers roughly 10 herder households living within the proximity.  As a result of this cooperation, the benefits of meat cattle were improved, such as the live weight of lambs are 5-7 kg higher and the live weight of castles are 10-12 kg higher compared to other herders' livestock.

Project objective: Improve quality and productivity of livestock through scientifically based and organized livestock breeding and selection process.

We organize our activities focusing on facilitation and proper organization of business activities besides improving meat productivity through breeding and selection, creating a nucleus flock of ruminants and cattle breeding, and combining modern technology and traditional methods of herding to resolve immediate challenges.  Moreover, based on modern scientific methods, we will set a benchmark of the operations for local herders and businesses.

Planned activities:

• Breed beef calves by using Hereford breed bulls for selection,
• Supply market with fresh meat products by feeding calves from their own farm and the calves procured from local herders and dairy farmers with a nutritious feeding program,
• Breed the sheep livestock by using Dorper (or other meat rams) breed ram and produce fast-growing F1 lambs through the application of selection methods. The spring lambs will be grazed in the pasture and sold for meat in the fall. As a result, the heads of wintering livestock will be reduced, improving the pasture land management,
• Establish a nucleus flock of the Barga breed sheep. Part of the young farm flocks will be used to supply to local herders and farm owners for breeding pure Barga breed ruminants.

Proposed solutions: Natural factors of drought and glaze will be resolved by mobile grazing in the summer and farm feeding in the winter season. We will use a livestock registration and information program and implement a QR code-based software system to track the origins of meat products. The nutrition program will be solved using fodder cultivation and haymaking.

Beneficiaries: Employees of the company, partner herders and temporary employees of the slaughterhouse, and staff of processing and marketing operations are the direct beneficiaries of the project.
